Wash Panel Sequence

Our Wash Sequence to Prevent Scratches

Follow this top-down sequence to minimize scratching and prevent dirt from cleaner areas being dragged onto dirtier sections.

1. Roof

Start with the roof, the cleanest and least contaminated area.

  • Wash from the center outward.

2. Upper Body Panels

These areas typically carry light to moderate contamination. Wash in this order:

  • Hood
  • Trunk
  • Upper doors
  • Windows & glass

3. Mid & Lower Body Panels

These areas collect the most road grime—save them for last to avoid dragging heavy dirt across cleaner panels.

  • Lower doors
  • Rocker panels
  • Front & rear bumpers

4. Wheels & Tires

Only include this step if your wash product is rated safe for wheels.

Otherwise:

  • Use a dedicated wheel cleaner and separate mitt/towels.
  • Downgrade or discard towels once used.

Microscopic brake dust is very abrasive and is one of the primary causes of scratch damage to a vehicle’s finish.

Why This Order Works

This top-down approach:

  • Prevents contamination transfer
  • Reduces wash-induced marring
  • Extends the life of overall protection
